Hello Slideluck Youth Initiative friends and supporters!

We are about to start up our Spring Semester with The Slideluck Youth Initiative and have some exciting updates to share! Our East New York, Harlem and Los Angeles Slideluck Youth Initiative chapters finished a very successful fall semester that concluded with a pop-up gallery show in Chelsea (thanks for all who came to support us!), a final slideshow of the East Los Angeles students’ work that was presented at the LA Slideluck, and a zine that showcases some student images (still available for purchase!). Our kids are so excited for classes to begin again and that’s where we need YOUR help. We would love for you to come to a class or two to volunteer and lead a photo-based activity to teach our kiddos something new and interesting in the photo field.

Slideluck Youth Initiative is an after school program that aims to foster creative expression and empower students through photography and multimedia storytelling. We will be meeting with students over the next 10 weeks to teach photographic methods, techniques and help students to develop bodies of work that will be shown in a culminating slideshow, we will keep you posted on those dates, so stay tuned. We would love for you to contribute your photographic expertise to our students and lead a photo workshop in any desired concentration. If you have an idea you are excited to teach, great! If you know you want to volunteer, but need help coming up with a fun activity, we are happy to brainstorm with you. With each workshop, we ask that you prepare a short slideshow about your work, speak to the students about your process and be open to answering questions students may have (please make sure work shown is age appropriate). The second half of class will be a hands-on based activity where the kids will be shooting and practicing a skill that YOU teach them—how fun is this!?

We are also looking for volunteers to document (both still images and video) of the SLYI classes to show the world the amazing things that are happening.

You can check out some of our students past work and projects here and you can learn more about the SLYI here. Classes begin the week of February 9th and last until mid-May.

Thank you for your continued love and support. Please contact with direct inquiries. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

All the best,

Rachel and the Slideluck Family
